Scholars Re-Unite for Fall Welcome Back BBQ and Volleyball Game

Scholars in Torch, Boston Public High School, and Boston Housing Authority Scholarship Programs at Northeastern gathered on Centennial Common on a sunny Saturday to catch up, compete at volleyball, and enjoy a cookout at the start of fall semester. The twice-yearly volleyball tradition started last spring with a lively game of volleyball between Torch and Boston scholars. Amidst the friendly competition, scholars shared stories of summer travel abroad, service trips, and experiences working on co-ops. All in good fun, the day is an opportunity to bring together the Educational Opportunity Scholarship programs and build connections between the different classes of scholars. The Fall Welcome Back BBQ and Volleyball event provided an opportunity to meet the incoming freshmen in Torch, BPHS, and BHA and for upperclass scholars on co-op to return to campus and catch up with friends. Vice President Philly Mantella, Dean Ronne' Turner, Program Director Jana McCarthy and Academic Advisor Leroy Jackson joined over 40 scholars for the event.

Husky Happenings Leading by Example: Current Scholars Host Dorchester Academy Students A group of 45 high school students from Dorchester Academy spent the day touring and mingling with student scholars at Northeastern University. The high school students' main objective was to learn about the college admissions process and the educational opportunity scholarships available through the Torch, Boston Public High School (BPHS), and Boston Housing Authority (BHA) Scholarship Programs at Northeastern.
