Mayor Bloomberg unveiled first of its kind data analytics system that will help the Fire Department continue to keep New Yorkers safe
The Risk Based Inspection System will help firefighters prioritize the nearly 50,000 full-building fire safety inspections they do throughout the City each year.
The system takes into account, for example, the height and age of a building, the materials from which it was constructed, whether it has a sprinkler system, its last date of inspection, and other factors, and then helps the FDNY identify buildings at highest risk for fire.
The system is an example of data making New York City safer. The Risk Based Inspection System helps makes the first line of fire defense in our city - fire safety inspections - even stronger.
