A. The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center

1. Establish the Library as a place for content creation

  1. Develop Staff Training, Curriculum and Certification
  2. Create programming

2. Establish a Marketing and Development Plan

  1. Training for staff, online or other to talk about what Melrose Center is, what it will do, how it fits in with overall plan
  2. Establish alliances with organizations such as Creative Village, educational institutions, and organizations of creative professionals

3. Open and operate the center

  1. Hold grand opening fundraiser
  2. Hold public grand opening

4. Plan for the Melrose Award

B. Children's Learning Initiative

  1. Develop additional Whiz Kids content/explore family learning experiences
  2. Seek ways in which Library can support transition to Common Core
  3. Hold contest for teachers to develop an exercise for students to connect to OCLS
  4. Promote resources to support homeschooling families
  5. Integrate digital content into early learning initiatives

C. Adult Learning Initiative

  1. Offer expanded language learning opportunities
  2. Offer Affordable Care Act information opportunities
  3. Promote community wide reading/learning events
  4. Expand Adult Summer Reading Program
  5. Expand culturally diverse programs
  6. Open Demo Kitchen

D. Staff Learning Initiative

  1. Conduct system-wide staff training including cultural awareness
  2. Explore need for additional Language Survival Guides for staff
  3. Provide self-directed learning opportunities for staff

Strategic Area Two: Foster Community Engagement

A. Social Media Promotion

  1. Re-evaluate Social Media to promote the library and engage the community in the library
  2. Engage staff system wide in promotions

B. Engage with/ in Community Content Development

  1. Host display/contest to encourage creativity and engagement
  2. Host Orlando Memory/Digital history events
  3. Create DIY events
  4. Continue development of eGo project - digital content project
  5. Launch EPOCH (Electronically Preserving Obituaries for Cultural Heritage)
  6. Promote document scanner equipment programming

C. Promote our Learning Role to the Public, our Partners and the Library Community

  1. Plan for a non-user study
  2. Promote library resources and activities to local media
  3. Cultivate OCLS as a National Model for presentations, publishing and award opportunities
  4. Explore Pop Up Library opportunities
  5. Forge alliances with partners
  6. Direct efforts to increasing number of cardholders (Prime Directive)

D. Pursue Funding Opportunities & Facilities
