First Floor Gallery
Star Trek – 50 years ago: Where No Man Had Gone Before, Kim Peters
The official 50th anniversary marking the first time Star Trek was aired on NBC is September 2016, but the series was brought to life in 1964 when production on the first pilot began November 27 of that year. Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek pilot, “The Cage,” was completed in January 1965 and promptly rejected by NBC in February – 50 years ago this year!

Luckily, NBC was impressed enough to order a second pilot and “Where No Man Has Gone Before" aired on Thursday, September 8, 1966. This short-lived television series whose pilot was rejected 50 years ago this February, lives on today in re-runs and in the hearts of the original Trekkies and all who have joined their ranks through the years.

The display includes a collection of first edition paperback Star Trek television show adaptations, Enterprise models, TV Guide covers representing each of the Star Trek spin offs, blue prints for the original Enterprise 1701 A Class and Next Generation 1701 D Class, communicators, and other collectibles including a scene from the original pilot "The Cage."
