Florida has over 1,300 miles of coastline that provide numerous resources for Florida’s native populations.  Dr. Rachel Wentz will examine life among the Calusa tribe and see how they built complex societies based on the rich coastal resources of South Florida.  Dr. Wentz, Director of the East Region of the Florida Public Archaeology Network, graduated from Florida State University with a Ph.D. in anthropology and specializes in the analysis of human remains with focus on ancient disease and population health.
