Meet the Director

Mary Anne Hodel

Welcome to the Orange County Library System!  Thanks to a generous $1 million dollar plus donation from the Kendrick B. Melrose Family Foundation, the Library is proud to have the 26,000-square-foot Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity.  The Center awarded its 2nd Melrose Award on February 6, 2016.  The Center is located on the second floor of the Main Library. It includes audio, film and photography studios, along with flight simulators and a fabrication lab with 3-D printers. You will also find driving simulators for teens, and forklift and construction simulators that will allow workers to gain experience. Learn more about the center at the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity blog.

Our library promotes learning in its many formats.  The library offers a wide array of classes from Microsoft Office basics to advanced classes on music editing using Logic ProTools and Adobe Audition, Intro to Soldering, prototyping with Arduino and Intro to Electronics.  We also offer sewing classes for teens and tech camps for kids and teens during the school breaks and vacation.  There are also many DIY learning opportunities through Lynda.com.  Besides downloading free music and e-books, and accessing more than 250 magazine titles online through Zinio, hoopla allows you to stream movies, TV, music or audiobooks instantly from your smartphone, tablet or PC.  Enjoy free Wi-Fi at all 16 libraries and take free technology classes. Sign up for our Technology @ OCLS newsletter to get the latest information about technology offered through your library.  Check out our SMART Start and Science classes for children.  To get the latest programs for kids, sign up for the Kid’s Newsletter.

Challenged with caring for an aging parent? Our Next Chapter Senior Wellness addresses care-giving concerns and is offered at many library locations each month.  Meanwhile, our Right Service at the Right Time website helps people tap into multiple outlets for public and private assistance.  Financial literacy workshops are offered at many of our facilities in partnership with the not-for-profit organization Consumer.  Cuisine Corner offers live in-person cooking demonstrations from famous local chefs.

The Orange County Library System houses the largest genealogy collection in the Southeast.  So whether you're a seasoned researcher or new to genealogy, it is a wonderful resource.  Check out all that we have to offer at the West Oaks Branch Library & Genealogy Center.  OCLS leads the way in online historical preservation through Orlando Memory and its groundbreaking EPOCH program.
