MAYL: The OCLS Home Delivery Service
What is MAYL?
It’s the Orange County Library System’s free home delivery of requested material. MAYL stands for Materials Access from
Your Library, and was started in 1974. We like to think of it
as our “virtual branch”.
How do I order items for delivery?
MAYL allows customers to request materials from the online catalog. Once you find an item you want, click the “Request Home Delivery” link. (If for some reason you don’t see a “Request Home Delivery” link, click on the “Request” button that features a checkmark.) Requests can also be made in person at any OCLS location, and also by phone 407.835.7323.
How are items delivered?
OCLS uses a local courier service called Priority Express Parcel (PEP) to deliver requested material to customer’s homes. The requested library material is delivered in a vinyl mailer and left at the front door. (Other arrangements for package placement can be made at the customer’s request; just call Special Services at 407.835.7461 or e-mail mayl@ocls.info.) For customers residing outside of the PEP delivery area or using P.O. boxes as their primary mailing address, the Library uses padded mailers and the U.S. Postal Service for delivery.
How long does it take to receive the item?
For requested material delivered by PEP, customers should expect items to arrive within three to five weekdays from the date the item is checked out. Requested material being delivered by the U.S. Postal Service typically takes up to seven days to arrive. The Library adds three days to the standard checkout period for all items being delivered, so that Informational DVDs check out for 10 days (rather than the standard seven days) and all other items check out for 24 days (rather than 21). If you are concerned about a requested item not arriving as expected, please call Questline at 407.835.7323.
How do I return delivered items?
Delivered items can be returned in person to any OCLS location. Items can be mailed back to the Library as well, but the customer is responsible for the cost of postage. Any package sent back through the mail without postage will result in the customer’s account being charged for the postage cost and an additional $5.00 processing fee.
How do I stop delivery if I will be away from home?
Please contact the library by phone at 407-835-7323 or email at mayl@ocls.info to let us know if you will be away from home and would like to postpone delivery of library materials. You can give us a date for resuming service or we can set stop deliveries until you contact us again to resume.
Can I choose to pick up requested items?
