Save the Date for The Avengers: Library Programs of Epic Proportions on Wednesday, January 2nd through Saturday, January 5th, Library Central, Orlando Public Library
Join us after the holidays at the Orlando Public Library in Library Central for movie screenings of Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger during the first week in January. Our week-long series will conclude with a movie screening of The Avengers on Saturday, January 5 at 1 p.m. where we invite you to dress as your favorite Avenger or Marvel superhero. Stay after the screening to enjoy an author talk with Jason Surrell at 4 p.m. Surrell takes readers behind the scenes in Avengers: the Art of the Avengers which chronicles the entire making of the film.

After an accident, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark creates a suit that sustains his life. When he heals, he decides to use his technology to fight crime and leads a double life as Iron Man in this comic book adventure.

After confessing his identity as Iron Man to the world, Tony Stark comes under fire from the U.S. Government who demands he hand over the powerful weapon that is the Iron Man suit. Meanwhile, a mysterious and dangerous foe emerges in Ivan Vanko, who creates a powerful persona known as Whiplash in order to exact revenge on the Stark family once and for all… and destroy Iron Man.

This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Captain America: The First Avenger

A brave, yet mild-mannered young soldier, Steve Rogers, volunteers to undergo a series of experiments for a US Army Super Soldier program. The military succeeds in transforming him into a human weapon, but quickly decides that their Super Soldier is far too expensive a creation to risk in combat. They want to use him as an Army celebrity but when a Nazi plot reveals itself, Rogers must rise up and become the First Avenger in order to save his country. Steve Rogers becomes Captain America and he earns his way into the hearts and souls of every American, bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation.
Saturday, January 5, 1 p.m.
When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. That team includes superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and The Hulk. Come dressed as your favorite Avenger hero and stay for an awesome surprise!

Author Jason Surrell will take readers behind the scenes of one of the most eagerly anticipated films of all time in Avengers: the Art of the Avengers.
