Celebrate National Poetry Month with the Orange County Library System. Poetry readings, spoken word performances, contests and classes are being offered to celebrate the month. Enjoy computer classes on how to get your poetry published or a Local Authors Festival featuring Poets. Whether you are an accomplished poet, a beginner, or just someone who enjoys a good poem these programs were created with everyone in mind.
Celebrate Your World with Poetry: Kid's Poetry Contest
Celebrate your world with poetry! Write a poem about anything in the world or out of this world and enter to win! Winners will be announced at the Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros / Day of the Children, Day of the Books Celebration on April 28, 3 p.m. at the Orlando Public Library. Pick up an entry form at any Orange County Library System location or print one. Deadline for entries is April 23, 2012. Ages 6-12.
Teen Poetry Contest
Do you write poetry, raps, limericks or lyrics? If so, enter the Teen Poetry Contest! Ages 13-18 are invited to participate in this battle of the poets. The winners will be announced during the Teen Open Mic Night on Thursday, April 26, 6 p.m. Please pick up the official entry form at your local branch or submit your poem online. Deadline for entries is April 20, 2012. Prizes provided by Yogurtland and The Book Worm.
