DISTANCE LEARNING AT USF

Distance Learning classes offered over the Summer Semester meet USF's summer attendance requirement. Contact your advisor to find out if distance learning is a good fit for your academic program.

Click on this link for the OASIS schedule of classes, then select Distance Learning to include all Distance Learning options.

Course Offered via World Wide Web

World Wide Web
Courses are offered online via the World Wide Web; an active e-mail account and Internet access is required. Most web based courses are accessed through BlackBoard at my.usf.edu and OASIS may list a website and other information. Contact the department or instructor for course details, to determine if any face-to-face meetings are required, and for information about specific hardware or software needs.

Course Offered via Studio Broadcast

ITV
Instructional television courses originate in specially designed classrooms and are received at other USF campuses (and sometimes at specific off-campus locations) at the same time or on a tape-delayed basis. This format allows two-way audio, one-way video communication between originating and receiving sites.

telecourse

Telecourse
Telecourses are broadcast on WUSF-TV and the Education Channel (for Bright House cable subscribers in Hillsborough County), DVDs or VHS tapes may be rented for the semester or purchased, and many telecourses are available as video-on-demand using the Internet. Telecourses typically use a web component (BlackBoard at my.usf.edu) for syllabus and other instructional content; an active e-mail account and Internet access is required. A few face-to-face meetings on campus are required for some telecourses; contact the department offering the course for additional information. Please refer to the telecourse listings in the catalog and contact the department offering the course for additional information. Most telecourses meet Liberal Arts General Education Requirements; please contact your advisor to confirm your academic program needs.

videoconf

Videoconference
Videoconferencing is an interactive process that allows students and faculty to see and hear each other at multiple locations in “real-time.” Locations include all four USF campuses and selected community sites.

video

Videotape and DVD
Courses are available on VHS videotapes or DVD only — NOT broadcast. Check course details for scheduled videotape viewing times in campus media centers. Videotapes are also available as rentals and from other sources such as public libraries. Contact the department or instructor for course details, and to determine if any face-to-face meetings are required.

audio

Audiocassette
Courses are available on audiotape only. Check course details for scheduled listening times in campus media centers. Tape series is available for purchase at the USF Tampa Campus Bookstore.
