RIMS-BTSA Program (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment)

It is well documented, through research and practice, that new teachers need to be mentored and supported during their first year of classroom responsibility. Not only do they have to develop skills for classroom management and guide students to master California's challenging content standards; they themselves must also meet the new California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

Support by an experienced teacher is often the key to initiating a new teacher's successful career and helping that teacher develop effective teaching strategies, learn to offer and accept feedback on teaching practices, and use the California Standards for the Teaching Profession to develop their teaching expertise.

The Formative Assessment for California Teachers (FACT) provides the framework for integrating formative assessment activities with teacher support and mentoring based on the standards for the profession.

The overarching goal of the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment system is to increase the effectiveness and retention of new teachers during their induction period and as they work to complete their California Clear Teaching Credential.

The Teacher Support Center also offers professional development opportunities to site administrators and support providers involved with new teacher induction.
