Three Year BSN Summer Option

The Salem Campus is the first Kent State campus to offer the four-year nursing degree on a 3 calendar year, eight semester schedule, for those capable students looking to gain a BSN as quick as possible. Students currently taking sophomore nursing courses or admitted to the nursing program through the College of Nursing are eligible to apply to this program after Fall semester sophomore year.

Students that would benefit from the Summer Three Calendar year BSN program:

  • Licensed practical nurses with clinical experience and/or college credits
  • Non-Traditional students with family obligations
  • Highly motivated students with evidence of good academic performance
  • Students with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Students with superior study skills

Of the 40-50 new nursing students accepted each year, 10 are given the opportunity to complete their course work in three years by attending semester clinical  and non-clinical courses during summer sessions.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Overall GPA greater than a 3.2 preferred
  • All sophomore sciences completed (Physiology and Genetics)
  • Science GPA's will be ranked from highest to lowest: 3.0 or above preferred
  • Nursing GPA's will be ranked from highest to lowest
  • Exemplary clinical evaluation
  • Faculty recommendation
  • Salem campus student priority
  • Junior level standing prior to summer semester
  • Number of completed LER's
  • Interview
  • Students from other campuses will be considered if empty seats are available
  • Prior work experience in health care
