About Us

In 1984, The University of South Alabama established a branch campus in Baldwin County. It was created to offer partial degree programs with upper-level undergraduate courses and graduate courses. The first classes met in September 1984, on the campus of Faulkner State Junior College in Bay Minette with fewer than one hundred students.

The University of South Alabama Baldwin County (USABC) began offering courses in Fairhope in 1986 to meet the demands of population growth in the southern part of the county. Since its beginning, enrollment at USABC has grown steadily and today has over 1,500 students annually. The curriculum has expanded and students who have completed the university’s general education requirements can complete a bachelor’s degree in the Adult Degree Program, Business Administration, Communication – Public Relations Track, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, and Nursing, which offers both a traditional and accelerated track. Minors in Communication and Psychology are also offered. In addition, students can earn a master’s degree in School Counseling and Nursing – Accelerated Track. Graduate level courses are offered leading to a degree in Educational Leadership and Special Education. A master’s degree in Elementary Education can be earned online.

USABC is tailored towards the working adult by offering most courses one night a week; however, education and nursing classes are held during the day. On-line courses are available as scheduled by the academic departments. Once admitted, students can register for courses offered at either university location.

Many outstanding and unique activities that go beyond the classroom are available on the campus of USABC. The Performance Center is used for community events throughout the year including the Distinguished Lecture Series and the Fairhope Film Series.
