Students must meet and maintain the following in order to be considered for student employment:

  • enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours (graduate students 4 credit hours)
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA (unless a department requires a higher GPA)

DEPARTMENTS CURRENTLY HIRING

DEPARTMENT: ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER
JOB TITLE:  American Sign Language Tutor
DUTIES:Assisting students in American Sign Language with clarification of course concepts and practice of skill in the American Sign Language lab, which operates primarily on a walk-in basis.  Assessing students on modules.  Additional tasks in lab as necessary.
PREFERRED SKILLS:  A current Kent State University student who has earned an A or B in Elementary American Sign Language I and II and Intermediate American Sign Language I and II.  Strong interpersonal skills.  A student who is motivated to help others but has completed only the Elementary ASL sequence will be considered.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Schedule will be created based on tutor’s availability, but typically between 10 and 20.
RATE OF PAY:  $8.10 per hour to start (as of January, 2015)

COMMENTS: 

DEPARTMENT:  GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
JOB TITLE:  Student Assistant
DUTIES:  Work with grounds crew (primarily in the outdoors; varied temperatures and weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, loud equipment noise, etc); lawn care, flowers, shrubs, operate motor vehicles, tools, keep grounds clean, snow and ice removal.  Requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 100 pounds including snow shoveling and extended periods of kneeling, stooping, standing, and walking. 
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Previous grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience.  Practical knowledge in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment and tools (i.e., rakes, shovels, pruning tools, gasoline powered Gator ATV’s, backpack blowers, lawn mowers, weed eaters, power edger’s, etc.).  Valid Ohio driver’s license with safe driving record.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 
RATE OF PAY:  $7.95 per hour

DATE POSITION IS AVAILABLE:  IMMEDIATELY
COMMENTS:  May work varied hours and shifts to include early mornings and evenings; requires on-campus travel.   

DEPARTMENT: CAMPUS CENTER EMPORIUM
JOB TITLE:  Food Emporium Student Assistant
DUTIES:  Customer counter service (i.e. taking food orders, running a cash register, etc.); cleaning dining area and food prep areas; stocking supplies; recycling and taking out trash; may also assist with light food prep (i.e. making sandwiches, bagging cookies and chips, etc.); Employees must follow state safety and health regulations. May be asked to use sharp kitchen utensils/equipment.
PREFERRED SKILLS: Ability to assist and direct students/customers; ability to multi task several duties simultaneously; ability to run a cash register; work will be mostly indoors with exception of recycling and taking out trash; may be asked to lift up to 30lbs.

JOB TITLE:  Tutor for German
DUTIES:  Assisting students in German courses with clarification of course concepts and study guidance by appointment at the tutor’s convenience
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Strong interpersonal communication skills, aptitude for language learning, a desire to help others

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Varies; dependent upon student requests.
RATE OF PAY:  $7.95 an hour

DEPARTMENT: RECREATION & WELLNESS CENTER          

JOB TITLE:  Group Exercise Instructor
DUTIES: Choreograph, teach and supervise drop-in group exercise classes that reinforce industry guidelines for healthy activity and promote and enhance permanent, positive lifestyle choices.
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Current CPR/ AED certification or ability to obtain required. We offer certification when needed. Current nationally recognized group exercise, cycling, yoga or other relevant certification required. Examples: Spinning, Zumba, AFAA, ACSM, NETA
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 2-5
RATE OF PAY:  $12.00 per hour
DATE POSITION IS AVAILABLE:  FALL SEMESTER

DEPARTMENT:  NETWORK SERVICES
JOB TITLE:  Computer Lab Assistant
REQUIREMENTS:  
Candidate should possess strong customer service skills. Must be organized, follow written directions and learn new tasks quickly. Also needs ability to lift, move, and connect computers with their peripherals.
DUTIES:
 The Computer Lab Assistant will have the overall responsibility of providing assistance to students, staff, and faculty in understanding the computer lab systems and in learning various software applications. The Computer Lab Assistant will aide in overseeing the proper use and maintenance of campus computer labs, classroom computers, and campus printers.
SKILLS: Ability to maintain a professional demeanor while collecting information from & providing instruction to users of the Helpdesk. A working knowledge of Windows, Office, Flashline, GMail, and Blackboard Learn is important.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK:  15-25
RATE OF PAY: 
$7.95 per hour

JOB TITLE:  Wait Staff
DUTIES:  
Serve clients food & beverages; restocking of food and supply items; set-up & break-down for events; maintain appearance of dining supplies; must be customer service oriented.
PREFERRED SKILLS: 
Ability to multi task several duties simultaneously; may be asked to lift up to 20lbs; must have good people skills.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK
: Looking for someone to work between 10 am and 2 pm during the week. Flexible schedule required as this position is as needed/per event.

DEPARTMENT: NETWORK SERVICES
JOB TITLE:  Helpdesk Tier 1 Support Associate
DUTIES:  This student worker will work closely with the Helpdesk manager to take the first calls from the Helpdesk line and begin troubleshooting based on documentation provided. They will input all the pertinent information into the Network Services ticket system and disperse the information to the rest of the department as needed. They will also help manage the Helpdesk database, running reports, cleaning data, review tickets for missing information and add notes as needed. They will help manage the documentation for the helpdesk and test any directions on various issues. They will be the backup support for lab and campus issues. Still maintaining regular lab assistant training and duties but will only be called in to those tasks when others are not available.
REQUIRED SKILLS:  Customer Service Phone Skills Basic use of Word, Power point, Excel and Access Organizational skills Create helpdesk documentation
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 10-15 a week more on long breaks
RATE OF PAY:  $8.25 per hour
