Please be advised that the NJ State History Fair will not be held in 2018.  We will reintroduce the Fair on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Manalapan, NJ.

The key reason for not holding the fair next year, are the many interpretive projects and events being presented at our historic sites in 2018.

Chief among these is the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth. Several prominent reenactment organizations have chosen to make the Battle of Monmouth reenactment their 2018 national event. This means the 240th will be a very large undertaking for our park staff and resources. It is scheduled to take place one month after we would normally host the history fair. We feel that timeframe would not allow us to sponsor both events at the level we would like to. Additionally, several of our other 18th century historic sites will be presenting new, special programming prior to and following the battle reenactment in order to enhance the public’s understanding and appreciation of the historical timeline leading up to and after the Battle of Monmouth.

Other interpretive projects that staff and volunteers are working on include the formal opening of a new exhibit in the Carriage Barn at Ringwood Manor and the installation of new exhibits at Twin Lights Lighthouse.

Please know that we remain committed to the SPIRIT of the JERSEYS and consider it a signature event for the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry. As the only state-wide history event of its kind, we believe it has contributed positively to the public’s awareness and understanding of not only our state’s history, but that of America’s as well. We certainly want to continue this tradition of showcasing our collective past through the many opportunities that the Fair affords us.

Thank you to all our exhibitors, presenters, partners, sponsors, food vendors and of course, the public, for your past support. We hope that you will continue to support the Fair in the future.

So please mark your calendars for May 11, 2019 when we bring back the “SPIRIT”, better than ever!

Updates will be posted on the Fair’s web site www.njhistoryfair.org.
