Verification

The Department of Education selects applications for Verification. You can reduce your chances of being selected by applying over the internet and by applying using a completed tax return. We do not know in advance if you will be selected and will not request verification of information until after receiving your SAR. If your SAR is selected by the Department of Education for Review, you must go through a process called Verification:

Verification for 2011-2012
If applying for 2011-2012 and your SAR information indicates that you have been selected for review in a process called verification, you must submit the following:

• 2011-2012 Independent Verification Worksheet if no parent information is required, OR
• 2011-2012 Dependent Verification Worksheet if you were required to put parent tax information on your FAFSA.
• A signed copy of your 2010 federal income tax return including W2s and all schedules. If you are married, you will need a signed copy of your and your spouse’s return. If you are a dependent student, you will need a signed copy of your parent’s 2010 federal income tax return including W2s and all schedules.
• If you no longer have a copy of the required tax returns, you can contact the IRS to send you one - be sure to keep a copy for your records and send us a signed copy.
• If you, your spouse, or your parents did not file and are not required to file an income tax return for 2010, you must supply a written statement along with documentation of how you were supported.

Verification for 2012-2013
If applying for 2012-2013 and your SAR information indicates that you have been selected for review in a process called verification, you must submit the following:

• 2012-2013 Independent Verification Worksheet if no parent information is required, OR
• 2012-2013 Dependent Verification Worksheet if you were required to put parent tax information on your FAFSA.
• A signed copy of your 2011 Federal tax transcripts including W-2s and all schedules. If you are married, you will need a signed copy of your and your spouse’s tax transcripts. If you are a dependent student, you will need a signed copy of your parent(s)’ 2011 Federal tax transcripts including W2s and all schedules. We will no longer be able to accept Federal tax returns.
