Troy University will host insurance symposium

TROY – Troy University’s Risk Management and Insurance Program will host the 12th Annual Collegiate Symposium of Excess and Surplus Lines.

The two-day symposium at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Birmingham will center on the theme “In the Eye of the Storm” and is supported by the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices.

Open to both RMI students from TROY and other universities as well as insurance industry executives, the symposium allows insurance students to interact with one another, introduces business students to insurance topics and gives industry executives the opportunity to meet insurance students, said Dr. Carol Jordan, eminent scholar and director of Sorrell College of Business’s Risk Management and Insurance program.

Featured speakers include:

Paul Springman, president of Markel Corporation, will provide a keynote address at the symposium’s luncheon.

Topics include:

Industry professionals are eligible for continuing education credit by attending the symposium.

Universities from Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Louisiana participated in last year’s symposium.

Registration for students is $150.00 and includes the cost of the hotel room, a reception, Saturday sessions and a luncheon. Industry professional pay $140 for the Saturday training sessions and eight continuing education hours.
