National Band Association to induct Robert Foster into Hall of Fame

TROY – Robert E. Foster will be inducted into the National Band Association Hall of Fame during the Southeast United States Clinic at Troy University on Feb. 4.

Foster, a Texan Native, is a graduate of the University of Texas.

Following graduation, Foster taught at O. Henry Jr. High School in Austin and at Lamar High School in Houston before joining the University of Florida as a trumpet teacher and assistant band director.

Foster is currently the professor of music and assistant chair of the department of music and dance at the University of Kansas.  He also serves as conductor and director of the award winning Lawrence City Band.

He is the former president of the American Bandmasters Association, the National Band Association, the Southwest Division of the College Band Directors National Association and the Big Twelve Conference Band Directors Associations. 

In addition to his leadership roles, Foster is an active guest conductor and adjudicator in 37 different states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Singapore and throughout Europe.

Foster is an educational consultant to Wingert-Jones Music Publications.  He has edited and written musical works that have been performed throughout America and all over the world.
