Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and Troy University Offer Certified Grant Writer Workshop
DOTHAN - In light of the need for funding for specialized programs and activities in our schools, charities and community, the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and the Troy University Continuing Education Center are teaming up to offer a Certified Grant Writing Workshop June 6 through 8 in Dothan.
The intense three-day seminar is designed to initiate the novice grant writer and enhance the skills of the experienced writer. The detailed training reviews the process of developing a grant proposal from beginning (“We need money”) to end (application submission), according to Mike Tew, coordinator of Business and Industry Training for the Troy University Continuing Education Center.
“Every year millions of potential grants are not distributed,” Tew said, “because many educators, administrators, directors and other leaders of educational entities, charities and communities are unaware of where to or how to submit applications.”
The Continuing Education Center and the Chamber have contracted with Research Associates, a leading grant writing and instructional company, to provide the high quality training needed to be more successful in receiving grant distributions.
Research Associates has an established 20-year track record. With a 90 percent success rate, the firm has obtained funding for clients totaling more than $200 million in federal, state, foundation and corporate grants.
Seminar topics will include: Beginning the Process, Understanding the Application, Defining the Need, Developing Program Strategies, Telling Your Story, Strengthening Your Proposal, Building the Budget, Finishing the Proposal, Aiming for Perfection and What Happens Now.
On the final day of the workshop, participants have the option of seeking certification by completing the Certified Grant Specialist test. Last year over one hundred persons took the test and were certified.
Due to limited space, only 200 workshop slots are available. Pre-registration is required. If registered by May 1, the cost of the course is $359. After May 1, the cost is $459.
Applications are available at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and the Continuing Education Center on the Dothan Campus. For more information, call (334) 983-0005.
