Raymond H. Smith
Associate Professor of Music
Raymond H. Smith, Associate Professor of Music, joined the Troy University faculty in the fall of 1990. Mr. Smith is a graduate of Troy State and the University of South Florida with degrees in music education and performance.
Raymond Smith has more than thirty years of public school and university teaching experience. During his public school teaching career, Mr. Smith's bands consistently received acclaim at state, regional, and national events.
Mr. Smith has served as a clinician, adjudicator, soloist, recitalist and conductor for bands, school systems, and music organizations throughout the South. Raymond Smith has presented clinics for the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Florida Bandmasters Association, the National Music Educators Conference, as well as many band, school systems, and arts organizations.
Among the honors Mr. Smith received are: Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Leader in Elementary and Secondary Education, Outstanding Service Award for the American Cancer Society, and Service Award by the NAACP.
Mr. Smith has been featured soloist with the Troy University Symphony Band on many occasions. Raymond Smith's other professional credits include performances with the Florida Orchestra, Tampa Bay Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony, Sarasota Opera, Tampa Ballet, Moscow Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Barnum and Bailey Circus, and many Broadway musicals.
Raymond H. Smith is currently director of the “Sound of the South” Concert Band, the Jazz Chamber Ensemble, and he is professor of woodwinds.
