- College for Kids The 22nd annual College for Kids program is being offered by Kent State University at Tuscarawas. This summer’s sessions offer 46 fun and interesting youth enrichment classes for students who were in first through eighth grades during the 2011-2012 school year. Session I is offered June 18-22 and Session II is July 23-27. Each five-day session offers courses from 10 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. - Posted May. 30, 2012

- Rainforest Reptile Shows to Present Rarity in Peril Rarity in Peril will be presented by the Rainforest Reptile Shows on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas. The Rarity in Peril presentation is a fascinating adventure through the rare and endangered reptile world! This multifaceted program of discovery includes many large reptiles and amphibians of the rainforests, including a rare white alligator, and critically endangered species from throughout the world. - Theatre Production of OKLAHOMA Cancelled "We have just been notified by the tour agency for OKLAHOMA that they have cancelled their tour which includes our January 16 performance of OKLAHOMA in our Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas," said Pam Patacca, public relations coordinator for Kent State University at Tuscarawas. "Their decision to end the show's tour early is a circumstance beyond our control. With a near sell-out crowd, we made every effort to avoid cancellation, which included trying to reschedule the performance. We extend to our patrons our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience. - The First Moravian Church of Dover Chancel Choir to Perform at Performing Arts Center The First Moravian Church of Dover Chancel Choir to Perform at New Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas Photo: Moravian Choir The First Moravian Church of Dover Chancel Choir will present a holiday concert at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Tues., Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Artist/Lecture Series, the concert will be held in the Performing Arts Center and is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The theatre doors open at 6:30 p.m. “This will be the first free public performance held in our spectacular Performing Arts Center,” said Pam Patacca, Public Relations Coordinator and co-chair of the Artist/Lecture Series Committee. “It is a wonderful opportunity for students and community members to begin their holiday season and be able to experience the Performing Arts Center at no cost.” Directed by G. Randall Gibbs, the 28-member Chancel Choir will present a traditional and varied Christmas concert of choral music, carols and Moravian Advent and Christmas selections. The Reeves Choir will be performing including solo handbell pieces. The concert will also feature several numbers accompanied by a string ensemble and flutes, and a special selection played by three performers on one piano. Richard Jones will sing a solo, Donna Keller will performing solo handbell numbers and Rebekah Gibbs Cole will interpret one of the numbers in sign language. Joining the choir will be guest soloist, Roberta Myers, director of music at Grace Lutheran Church. Accompanying the choir, will be Linda France on piano. The concert will also include performances by and a youth performers. The First Moravian Church of Dover Chancel Choir has performed at the American Guild of Organists Canton Chapter, Kent State Tuscarawas, and was the featured choir at the German Music Symposium at Zoar. The current choir has recorded two CDs. Gibbs has been the director of music at First Moravian Church of Dover since 1975. His musical training began at an early age, studying piano and organ with Lou Weaver, May Jackson and Sara Riel. A 1973 graduate of Malone College, he received a Bachelor in Music Education with a concentration in pipe organ and a minor in piano. During his teaching career at New Philadelphia City Schools, he served as a music instructor at the elementary, middle and high school levels. After receiving a Master in Educational Administration from Ashland University, he served the district as an assistant principal, and completed his administrative career as the assistant superintendent in 2005. Currently, Gibbs is the director of testing for New Philadelphia City Schools and Quaker Digital Academy. Gibbs’ musical career has included organist/junior choirmaster at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1970-75 and music director of Trumpet In The Land, 1978-82. As the director of music at First Moravian Church of Dover, he serves as the organist, directs the Chancel Choir, Reeves Handbell Choir, the Rickecker Posaunenchor, and coordinates the music program. Additionally, he is the organist for Handbells Columbus, a select community bell choir from the Columbus area. Gibbs is a member of the American Guild of Organists. A 19-year member of the Board of Trustees of the Moravian Music Foundation, Gibbs currently serves as the chair of the music committee. Since 1976, he has participated in the Moravian Music Festivals, singing in the chorus, assisting in rehearsals, and played the opening lovefeast of the 2006 festival in Columbus. He is also the co-founder of New Philadelphia City Schools’ Quaker Foundation, serving on the board as president and historian. Gibbs and his wife Nancy, who is a choir member, reside in New Philadelphia. They have two adult children, Rebekah and Aaron.
