Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology (CDIB)

The Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology (CDIB) was formed in February 2012 by a merger of the departments of Cell Biology and Physiology & Biophysics.  

CDIB is one of seven Joint Health Science departments in the UAB Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. The Department has 45 primary faculty members, who manage more than $12.5 million in grant funding.

The major goals of our Department are to sustain our excellence in research and graduate training, as well as to provide outstanding professional teaching to students in the UAB Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, and Health Related Professions.

CDIB's research and education takes place in over 57,000 square feet of laboratory and office space.  While predominantly housed in the McCallum Basic Health Sciences Building and Tinsley Harrison Tower, the Department also occupies space in Volker Hall, the Bevill Biomedical Research Building, and the Shelby Interdisciplinary Research Building.
