Service Learning at UAB

SHC Winners 2013
Congratulations to Students for a Healthier Community,
led by Co-Presidents Gaylen Patterson and Pauleatha Diggs, for their win for Outstanding Service Project at the Student Excellence Awards on April 24, 2013.

Students for a Healthier Community, a student group made up of undergraduates in many different majors, saw a need for nutritional and physical education for the clients of three Birmingham non-profits. They worked tirelessly over the academic year to implement a unique and flexible health and nutrition curriculum for those clients. The group's efforts resulted in a documented reduction of unhealthy behaviors in the children they served as well as the children's households.
