There is no place on Earth like the Galapagos Islands (declared World Heritage by UNESCO). Their unique natural history makes the islands ideal scenarios for learning biology, biogeography, environmental sciences, human ecology and the history of evolutionary biology.

Darwin's visit to the Galapagos, in 1835, was crucial for the development of the theory of evolution. The Department of Biology at UMass Dartmouth offers students the opportunity to visit the Galapagos archipelago as part of their educational experience.

Two courses are offered on irregular basis: Evolution on Islands: A Case Study the Galapagos Archipelago (for bio majors) and Expedition to Galapagos (open to all students).
