- Dr. Whitney Hable was recently awarded tenure by the UMass Board of Trustees and promoted to Associate Professor. Congratulations on a job well done!
- We welcome two new tenure-track assistant professors this year, Dr. Pia Moisander and Dr. Mark Silby. Dr. Moisander is a marine microbiologist who uses molecular tools to study the physiology and ecology of phytoplankton. Dr. Silby is a microbiologist who studies the genetic basis of ecological success in bacteria.
- We also welcome several new graduate students to the department. Nicole Balk, Whitney Green, Rachel Jorgenson, Brian Leary, Douglas Marshall, Nicole Rodstrum, Michael Savaria, Emma Welch, and Steven Wilcox are pursuing master's degrees in biology or marine biology. Sherri Eldridge is pursuing a doctoral degree in the intercampus School for Marine Science. Soniya Bali, Prapti Behera, and Ashley Stoehr are in the intercampus doctoral program in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology. We wish all of them success in their programs of study.
- Senior Kayla Correia spent the past summer at a National Science Foundation-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates program at Fordham University.
- Dr. Jefferson Turner has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Experimental Biology and Ecology.
- Dr. Tara Rajaniemi won the Chancellor's Green Campus Faculty Award for her work in sustainability.
