Christina Biron is a full professor and Chairperson of the Dept. of Foreign Literature and Languages, where she teaches a variety of interdisciplinary language, culture, and literature courses as well as courses in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, and the theory and practice of teaching foreign languages. Since 2002 she has developed a study abroad course in Spain, an intensive Spanish language program for the department, as well as courses in Caribbean music and literature, Latin American Theatre, and Latina Literature. She has served as Co-Director of Faculty Development for the Center for Teaching and Learning and facilitated multiple graduate action research projects for the UMD Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Her publications and presentations include topics related to the integration of language and culture, interdisciplinary learning and teaching, study abroad, foreign language assessment, and language learning through technology. In January, 2009 she was awarded the Provost's Best Practices Award for Innovative Use of Technology in a Spanish 103 class.
