Weihua Zhang holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.A. from Wesleyan Universiy, and a B.A. from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing. She is originally from Beijing and speaks standard Mandarin. She is fluent with modern and classical Chinese literature, as well as both the simplified and traditional Chinese characters. Her articles appear in Ethnomusicology, the Garland Encyclopedia of Music, and the New Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
