What is the Concentration in French?

A concentration in French within the Liberal Arts Major focuses on mastery of the language, understanding of French and Francophone cultures, familiarization with the most important figures of French literature, and critical awareness of the intellectual problems and possibilities involved in the study of other cultures. A concentration offers you an opportunity to add a cultural and linguistic dimension to your academic experience.

Requirements for the Concentration in French in the Liberal Arts Major

15 credits at the 300/400 level in French, distributed as follows:

• FRN 301 and FRN 302 (6 credits)
• One survey of literature course: FRN 331 or FRN 332 (3 credits)
• One culture course: FRN 312 (3 credits)
• One additional 300- or 400-level culture or literature course (3 credits)
