Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design

I care deeply about teaching graphic design, fostering my students' progress as educated citizens, and achieving the highest standards of professionalism and creativity in my scholarship. My professional work is primarily focused in the area of digital media and web design for social profit.

Design for social profit is concerned with linking visual designers with organizations that benefit our society. It advocates a model of shared responsibility in developing visual communication projects that are informed by the voice and concerns of the intended audience. The division between us and them is replaced with we.

The value these organizations provide to society is often overlooked because of their lack of visibility. While some organizations recognize the value of employing visual designers as partners, mission-driven organizations that operate in economically challenged communities do not often seek the same level of service. Design for social profit invites visual designers to bring a high level of design competency to the work of organizations that provide value to their communities. This is achieved by a thorough understanding of the organization's mission, a shared commitment to the goals of the project, investment in interviews; and dialogue between designer, community representatives and the intended audience.
