Biography

Dr. Meressi received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia in 1985 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990 and 1993 respectively. From 1985 to 1988 he worked as an Assistant Lecturer in Addis Ababa University. Currently he is the department Chairperson and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Dr. Meressi teaches courses in robotics, control theory and machine design. His research interests include learning control of robot manipulators, gain-scheduled control of systems with time varying dynamics, application of smart materials in active vibration control of flexible link manipulators, scheduling of Discrete Event Systems and Manufacturing Automation. In addition to his teaching and research duties, he serves as an Associate Editor for the Conference on Decision and Control and the American Control Conference.
