Getting Connected at UMass Dartmouth
NFI
Taking in all the new information that you encounter during your first few months as a new faculty member is simpler if it's organized.
People
Faculty Senate
By agreement with the Administration, the Faculty Senate governs policy and creates guidelines in many areas of university life. Compostion of the Senate is drawn from Academic Councils and Librarians.
As part of your annual review process, you may be asked about your contribution to University Service. Sitting on and participating in the work of a University Committee is one way to fulfill the Service requirement. A partial list of Senate-based University Committees is available; however, other committees are functioning at this time and may also be included as your Service component.
Faculty Federation
The Faculty Federation represents full time and part time faculty, librarians, and professional staff in two bargaining units: the Faculty Unit and the Educational Services Unit (ESU).
Faculty Development Center
The Center promotes excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
Library services
The Carney Library is the five-story building nearest the campanile. Reference librarians specialize in the broader fields in which faculty teach. Each academic area has its own library liaison to help with your course library needs.
Technology
CITS (Computing and Information Technology and Services) is our campus IT (information technology) service. Steps in using IT at UMass Dartmouth are listed on the CITS Get Started page.
Faculty may request an email account by contacting CITS Access Management at cit_am@umassd.edu or calling x8532. Your email username and password is your UMassD Logon, providing access to a number of IT services beyond email.
Please activate your email account as soon as possible. Many department chairs use departmental listservs for important communications; in addition, we at the NFI will be contacting you via email.
myCourses
The CITS Instructional Development (ID) team oversees the software and training for online and blended courses.
