UMD Solar Decathlon Project

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Solar Decathlon Project Team is competing in the Solar Decathlon by designing and building a green/solar home and donating it to DC Habitat For Humanity. From the ReStore in Springfield, MA, our home will feature building materials and interior finishings harvested from other buildings. Promoting eco-design and sustainable building strategies, we hope to become a regional center for designing and building sustainable solar homes, and to serve as a resource for information, education, and training.

The Solar Decathlon is a competition held every two years. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and its partners, the competition raises awareness about solar energy and encourages universities to explore the feasibility of designing and building a sustainable home—with an emphasis on solar power.

The contest will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from September 29 to October 19, 2005.
