Notes: UMass Dartmouth starter Mike Gikis scattered seven hits and one run over the first 5 2/3 innings and Andy Marshall went 2 1/3 innings of relief to lift the Corsairs past Bridgewater State College, 5-2, in a non-conference game played Thursday. UMass Dartmouth extends its winning streak to five in a row and 9-8 overall, while Bridgewater State College falls to 8-7 overall.
Bridgewater State out hit the Corsairs, 9-8, but scored its only runs on solo home runs by Jeremy Winters and Mike Foster. UMass Dartmouth scored single runs in the first and fifth for a 2-0 lead and put the game away with a three-run seventh inning. Back to back RBI doubles by Mike Rahme and Jason Orlando were the big hits in the inning. After adding a single run in the eighth, Kyle Darrow came on the ninth for UMass Dartmouth and picked up his second save of the season.
Rahme was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Corsairs, while Orlando was 1-4 with an RBI.
The Corsairs return to action this Saturday afternoon when they play UMass Boston in a Little East Conference doubleheader. The site of Saturday's LEC game has been moved to UMass Dartmouth, although UMass Boston will serve as the host team for both games, beginning at 12 noon.
