Notes: UMass Dartmouth extended its winning streak to nine straight with a 7-2 non-conference victory over Framingham State College on Tuesday in a game moved from Framingham to UMass Dartmouth. The victory improves the Corsairs' record to 13-8 overall, while the Rams of Framingham State fall to 6-14-1.
UMass Dartmouth pitchers Mike Gikis and Mike Fernandes combined to limit Framingham State to only two runs on eight hits, while the Corsairs scored twice in the first two innings for an early 4-0 lead. Tom Jachimczyk and Jason Orlando hit back to back RBI singles in the top of the first and Jon Merrill's two-run home run in the second gave the Corsairs all the runs they would need.
Framingham State added one in the sixth on an RBI single by Robbie Lepardo and another in the seventh on a pair of walks, a single by James Wadsworth and fielder's choice by Joe Sousa to score Matt Thistle. UMass Dartmouth added two more in the seventh after Mike Rahme walked and Kevin Walsh singled. Merrill's sacrifice fly scored Rahme and Mike Dougan's RBI double scored Brian Pereira. Rahme had an RBI single in the eighth to drive home Jachimiczyk.
The Corsairs will get back into Little East Conference action on Thursday, April 11 when UMass Dartmouth travels to Rhode Island College for a single game, beginning at 3:30 p.m. UMass Dartmouth is still undefeated in the LEC with a perfect 4-0 mark, while East Connecticut holds a 5-0 mark. UMass Dartmouth made its first appearance in the New England Division III Baseball Coaches' Poll, ranked eighth in this week's poll.
