The UMass Dartmouth is exploring solutions to a better and more efficient transportation system development. Utilization of intermodal systems together with traffic efficient technologies will provide a range of smart commuting choices. Our campus research is focused on traffic studies, intelligence transportation systems, environmentally friendly pavements, bike route analysis. Furthermore, collaborations with the regional economic development agencies facilitate local solutions for more affordable daily commuting options.

Faculty Research

Traffic Studies/Intelligent Transportation System

Traffic congestion and parking issues could be addressed by efficient transpiration system design, land planning and development. Sequential timing of traffic lights can prevent road bottlenecks by smooth traffic flow.

Environmentally-friendly Pavement Technologies

The carbon footprint of road construction and maintenance is immense, as we are more increasingly relying on highways for daily commute and transpiration. We can reduce the environmental impact of our roads by utilizing environmentally friendly technologies, including recycled materials.
