As of January 2012, T4 has been upgraded to a new version: version 7. The following pages will familiarize you with the main differences between the "old" T4 and our new version 7.

You can also print PDFs organized for:

T4 Version 7 offers

  • a more visually-appealing interface
  • new features
  • improved functionality

The basic T4 "way of doing things" is the same. But, there are some new things to try out.

Right away, you'll notice that the log-in box, shown here, is easier to view.

NOTE: Only bookmark cms.umassd.edu before you login—not after.

Welcome page

The welcome page now looks like this:

Improvements include:

  • The Logout is no longer hidden in the Content drop down menu. It's now easy to find in the upper right corner.
  • The Content drop down menu now includes the Media Library (no longer in the Tools drop-down menu).

Remember, if you're working in the text editor (on your content) and migrate to the Media Library without saving--your content edits will be lost. T4 does NOT offer a warning. So be sure to save your edits before going to the Media Library. Better yet--do your Media Library uploads first, before you begin your text edits.

To go to your site, go to the CONTENT MENU and select SITE STRUCTURE.

Site structure

The Site Structure screen now looks like this:

There's a bit more happening at the Site Structure. We'll take it in sections, from left to right, using the example shown here:

Improvements include:

  • When you mark a section for deletion, making it inactive, it will turn red.
  • When you mark a section as pending (you don't want it to go live by mistake before you're finished with it), it will turn a dark yellow.
  • When you mouse over a section, it will now turn a pale yellow.
  • Sections appearing in the navigation have yellow file folders: the default. When you mark a section as not showing in the navigation, it will have a gray file folder.

In the upper middle portion of the Site Structure, as shown in the example below, we still have the floating menu and the "traffic lights" to indicate content that is approved/pending/deleted.

Right-column widgets

On the far right of the Site Structure screen, you'll now find widgets with these features:

  • Search—a more prominent search box to search for section names or content block names; the default setting is to search section names
  • Last Modified Content—to view your most recently modified sections
  • Approval List—for moderators only—to view and approve content awaiting approval
  • Scheduled & Running Publishes—to view the next live publishing time (in military time)

Here's how the widgets look:

Navigating the widgets

Revise the order of the widgets

  • Click the MOVE tool, the plus (+) symbol, in the widget's upper right corner while dragging it further up or down the column of widgets.

Delete a widget temporarily

  • Click the X in widget's upper right corner.

Restore a widget

  1. Click the round ADD button located on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. When the widget's heading bar reappears, click the MOVE tool to drag the widget further down the right column of widgets.

Restoring a widget is shown here:

In addition, both contributors and moderators have floating menus now. We'll review the floating menu next.

Next: Floating menus for moderators and contributors.
