2012 Hurricane Season: Are You Ready?
For the entire six-month season, which begins June 1, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center says there’s a 70 percent chance of nine to 15 named storms (with top winds of 39 mph or higher), of which four to eight will strengthen to a hurricane (with top winds of 74 mph or higher) and of those one to three will become major hurricanes (with top winds of 111 mph or higher, ranking Category 3, 4 or 5).

Lt. Gen. Thomas Bostick assumes command of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Washington—Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick became the 53rd U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general and U.S. Army chief of engineers during an assumption of command ceremony today at Baruch Auditorium, Fort Lesley J. McNair. Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III hosted the event.

Robert E Lee ROBERT E. LEE SERVED 26 YEARS AS CORPS OF ENGINEERS OFFICER: Robert E. Lee was a United States Army engineer officer from 1829 to 1855. Born on 19 January 1807 in Stratford Hall, Westmoreland County, Virginia, Lee’s father was Revolutionary War hero Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee. Home-schooled by his parents until he was thirteen, he then entered an academy in Alexandria, Virginia. After a year at a Quaker prep school, he entered the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York on 1 July 1825. An excellent student, Lee graduated number two in the class of 1829 and entered the Corps of Engineers.

MYTH: You have to join the Army to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

FACT: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is primarily a civilian organization with 37,000 dedicated civilians and about 550 Soldiers.  Civilian occupations include: civil engineers, chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, environmental engineers, biologists, engineering technicians, architects, realty specialists, lock and dam operators, survey technicians, project engineers, geologists, hydrologists, and others.  Sound interesting?
