Conference Presentation Formats

VCCS employees and confirmed vendors at the silver level and above are invited for a concurrent session in one of the following formats:

• Single presenter only (one hour, podium set-up)
• Presenters forum (one hour, podium set-up, 1 lead presenter and up to 4 co-presenters)
• Presenters panel (one hour, head table set-up, 1 lead presenter and up to 4 co-presenters)
• Computer lab workshop (one hour, hands-on)
• Computer lab workshop (two hours, hands-on)

New for 2012 - A number of forum or panel presentations will be live streamed to reach colleagues across the state. These sessions may have one or more presenters. If you are accepted for one of these slots, be sure to design your one-hour session with both in-person and web audiences in mind. A NH12 Ed-Tech committee member will be present during your session to help facilitate and connect you with the Web audience.

Conference Timeline

• The conference begins at noon on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 and ends at noon on Friday, March 23, 2012.
• Proposals are to be submitted online and are due by COB, Wednesday, November 2, 2011. The deadline will not be extended.
• Update! [02.24.12] Call for Proposals is now closed.
• Presenters will be notified of the committee’s decision by Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

Conference Themes

• Moving the sage off the stage - Learning communities and collaborative learning all put the student at the center of making meaning of their studies.
• Teaching at a master level - Teaching is a science and an art. Let’s explore both and the intersection of the two.
• The classroom of the future – new pedagogies for new learning spaces
• eLearning - Distance, hybrid, blended learning, and other virtual forms of teaching and learning are revolutionizing our field. Let’s learn more about this and share best practices.
• Going green - Much of the world is doing this and so is the VCCS with the launch of their new task force report. Share your ideas and practices of going green in the classroom and throughout your campus.
• Student services - Often unacknowledged in academic circles, student services can be major partners in teaching and learning. Showcase examples of your partnership and other strategies.
• Social media - Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, smartphones, email, texting, Blackboard App, mobile learnings, tablets/notebooks
• Networking - Collaboration

Suggestions for a Good Presentation (based on past conference evaluations)

• Deliver what you promise, make sure your presentation matches the program description
• Use active learning strategies—involve your audience
• Accommodate all learning styles
• Be interactive;  show me, don’t tell me
• Practice beforehand.  Pre-test your technology at the conference site
• Make sure your designation of the intended audience is accurate
• Challenge your attendees, make them think and give them something practical to take back to their classroom/job
• Provide high quality deliverables (PowerPoints, URLs, documents, etc.) that can guide attendees after the presentation, be useful to those who didn’t attend your session, and can help market your session to potential attendees if available in advance.

The program committee plans to provide an online venue to make deliverables for each presentation available for a limited time after the conference.  It will also be available for those who want to provide deliverables in advance as a marketing tool for their presentation.

Evaluation Criteria

Media Support for Presentations 

Each concurrent session room will be equipped with one of each of the following items: PC laptop, LCD projector with screen, internet connection, and portable laptop speakers. Computer software will include up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader and Internet Explorer. Additional items such as easel pads and markers can be requested on the call for proposals form.

The computer lab workshops will have up to 30 laptops with wireless internet connections and a presenter's laptop connected to an LCD projector with screen, and portable laptop speakers.

If you plan to provide your own laptop (Mac or PC) or other technology related items, you are required to bring the necessary adaptors to connect with the LCD projector.

Please have your presentation loaded onto a flash drive or bring your personal laptop to connect to the projector. If your presentation was created using Vista or on a Mac and you intend to use the laptop provided, please save it in the current Windows format or send to Fred Franklin for conversion no later than March 1, 2012.
