Bloomberg, Friday, June 01, 2012
(RECAP: All options for overhauling the U.S. system of housing finance pose challenges and need further study, an adviser to Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said today. The options in the Obama administration’s report ranged from limited federal involvement to a system in which the government would serve as a catastrophic insurer on certain mortgages behind private investors. Any proposal from the administration will include government support for low-income homeowners and rental housing, the adviser said.)

(RECAP: The industry has long known of problems with vacancy and blight, even before the latest housing collapse. Behind-the-scenes responses — including code enforcement and neighborhood outreach — have met varying degrees of success. Yet the NFHA's recent complaints bring new, unflattering attention to the issue. Problems with vacant homes are epidemic in many cities' minority neighborhoods, the NFHA said. But many within the mortgage and housing industry contest the NFHA's findings, saying they make don't make decisions of whether to clean up or repair a property based solely upon where it's located.)
The Wall Street Journal, Thursday, May 31, 2012
(RECAP: Federal regulators delayed new rules to establish standards for the mortgage-lending industry, a move that could further hold back the thin market in mortgage-backed securities not supported by the federal government. The rule delay marks another setback in Washington's attempts to redesign the $10.3 trillion U.S. mortgage market, years after the onset of the housing woes.)
Richmond Times-Dispatch, Monday, June 04, 2012
(RECAP: The first redevelopment of a Richmond public housing site since the Blackwell projects came down 12 years ago begins this month with the initial phase of a new mixed-income development on the site of the former Dove Court, demolished in 2008. No firm date has been set for a groundbreaking on the first phase of the project, though it is expected to start this month. It consists of 80 rental units for low- and moderate-income tenants, including 30 set aside for households making at or below 30 percent of the area median income.)
Senior Housing News, Thursday, May 31, 2012
(RECAP: A private company says it is “reshaping the face of affordable housing in America” in a bold statement that follows a 2012 report by the Center for Housing Policy which weighed and measured the nation’s stock of affordable housing options for a rapidly aging population—and found it severely wanting. GHC Housing Partners is making waves in the affordable housing arena with recent acquisitions that include Essex Village, in Richmond, Va., with about 100 of its 496 units designated for senior housing.)
