VSU Coaches Honored At CIAA Annual Awards Ceremony

Virginia State University’s head men’s tennis coach Gene Thompson and head track & field coach Jason-Lamont Jackson, both received CIAA Coach of the Year Awards and were presented an award at the Annual CIAA year-end luncheon in Newport News, VA on Thursday, May 24th . Also, the Trojan’s head football coach Andrew Faison received an award for his team obtaining the highest team GPA in the sport of football throughout the CIAA.

Samantha Edwards competed in the women’s 200m and 400m dashes, while Daniel Ross ran in the men’s 400m hurdles at the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus.

William Rudd (senior/Richmond, VA) was recognized by the Hampshire Honors Society of the National Football Foundation for his superior academic performance and excellence in intercollegiate football in 2012. Rudd recently earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University’s HPERD Dept.

VSU's Edwards and Jackson Named 2012 Outdoor DII Atlantic Region Athlete and Coach of the Year

Virginia State University’s Samantha Edwards and head coach Jason-Lamont Jackson were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (UTSFCCCA) as the organization’s Atlantic Region Women’s Athlete and Women’s Coach of the Year for the 2012 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field season, announced on Thursday, May 17th.
