THE ACADEMIC YEAR COMPONENT

During the academic year, students are involved in instructional and tutorial services on campus. Students come to the campus two Saturday's each month to receive additional instruction in the areas of: Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Creative Writing, and Computer Technology. The teachers are from various public schools in the target area and Virginia State University.

The program Counselors conduct school visits to all target area schools to meet with teachers, Guidance Counselors and/or Administrators to obtain grades, follow up with concerns and conduct group or individual guidance sessions.  Each Spring, Counselors recruit potential applicants from the target area Middle and Junior High Schools. Applications are accepted year round; however, new students begin the program in September.
