The Lady Trojans tennis team at Virginia State University was eliminated from the 2012 CIAA Women’s Tennis Championships by the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University 5-0 on Friday, April 20th at the VSU Tennis Courts.

Virginia State University’s women’s tennis program won three awards for the matched played through April 1, 2012 and were recognized as CIAA Tennis Players of the Week. Nakesha Harry (freshman/ St. Vincent, West Indies) was named CIAA Player of the Week, Sharmane Tonkins (freshman/ Norfolk, VA) was named CIAA Rookie of the Week, and Dr. Linda Person was named CIAA Coach of the Week.
Virginia State’s women’s tennis team has compiled an 8-1 divisional record, ranking the Lady Trojans first in the CIAA North. The Lady Trojans went 2-1 this past weekend after hosting Elizabeth City State, Chowan, and Bowie State at the VSU Tennis Complex.

Virginia State University’s tennis program held a 10 & Under Quick Start Workshop on the campus of VSU on Wednesday, March 14, sponsored by The United States Tennis Association (USTA). The Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department, VSU’s Student Activities, as well as several student-athletes on both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at VSU participated in the workshop.
Virginia State University’s women’s tennis team defeated both Saint Augustine’s and Fayetteville State on Saturday, March 10 in Ettrick, VA, picking up their first wins of the season. The Lady Trojans shut out the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s 9-0 and then breezed through the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State 8-1.
The Lady Trojans were swept by the Lady Pirates of Hampton University 9-0, at the Centre Court Tennis Complex in Hampton, VA on Saturday, Feb 25.
Junior, Valencia Williams picked up wins in both singles and doubles play, but Virginia State University’s women’s tennis team was defeated 5-4 by the Lady Rams of Shepherd University on Friday, Oct. 14th in Ettrick, VA.
