We Can Help
The Wallace State Financial Aid office offers a variety of programs and assistance for students seeking funding for their education. This includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Stafford Loans, WIA/TAA, Vocational Rehabilitation, scholarships and other programs. Seventy-eight percent of Wallace State students receive some type of financial assistance.
Student Financial Assistance
Through its financial assistance programs, Wallace State Community College seeks to provide the opportunity for all deserving students to continue their education. The Financial Aid Office may be able to help the student or prospective student work out a "package" financial plan that could include the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, and other sources of help that are available through the college.
Register with Selective Service
If you are a male who is at least 18 years old and born after December 31, 1959, you MUST be registered with Selective Service in order to receive Federal student aid.
Pell Grant
To receive Pell Grant funding, a student must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov, making sure to have W2 forms and most recent tax returns on hand to complete the application. Once the online application is complete, the student must contact the Wallace State Financial Aid office to finalize paperwork.
Direct Loans
Students must complete the FAFSA and have an accurate and complete Pell Grant file in the Financial Aid office. In order to receive a Direct Loan, a student must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours.
Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
The WIA program offers assistance to selected eligible individuals who enter approved training programs at Wallace State Community College. Funds are generally provided for tuition, fees, tools, and books. The local Alabama Employment Office determines eligibility, and funds provided are based on the program in which the student has been accepted.
Trade Readjustment Act (TRA)
This is a program through the Department of Labor which retrains people who have become unemployed through business or factory closings. Consult your local employment office for assistance.
College Work Study Program
This is a campus-based employment program in which students are paid an hourly wage for employment. Students must apply for federal aid through the FAFSA application. They must also complete an application in the financial aid office.
Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. A Wallace State application for admission, official transcripts, and completed scholarship application must be on file at the college before a scholarship can be awarded. Types of scholarships include Presidental; Academic Excellence; Allied Health, Nursing and Health-Linkage; Career/Technical; Music; Theater and Athletic scholarships. For information on the requirements and deadlines for each scholarship call 256/352-8092, or download the scholarship application.
