About Us
About Wallace State Community College - Hanceville
Wallace State is a part of a system that serves the needs of more than 300,000 individuals and has been conservatively estimated to produce a $3 billion annual economic impact on this state and in our communities. The real impact, however, is in improving the lives of students through education.
Since opening our doors in 1966, Wallace State has served hundreds of thousands of students. From the very beginning, Wallace State embraced a commitment to excellence that has become not only a tradition but our source of inspiration. Today Wallace State is one of the largest colleges in the Alabama Community College System, serving more than 7,000 students each semester. This college is a virtual powerhouse in educational programming, with more than 50 majors leading to degree, certificate and transfer opportunities.
Our focus on excellence is evident in our personal commitment to serving students and in the technologically-advanced learning environments that ensure our students receive the most effective education. At Wallace State you will find classrooms infused with the latest technology, including interactive SmartBoards, Tegrity and MediaSite Live. Through online learning, videoconferencing, podcasting, and off-campus centers, we provide education convenient to our students' busy lives.
Wallace State provides seamless educational opportunities from early high school entry to the graduate level. Through dual enrollment, the FastTrack Academy, Tech-Prep, and other programs, high school students seeking college credit in academic transfer programs, career technical education, public safety, health care or automotive technology will find their needs met here. The STARS articulation system guarantees our students transferability of credit to any Alabama public college or university. For those who want to complete their bachelor's and master’s degrees on campus, Wallace State students may take advantage of our University Center partnerships and special articulation agreements, including those with Athens State University, the University of Alabama, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Auburn University, and Troy University.
Our students obtain unprecedented levels of success, whether transferring, taking licensure exams or finding employment, and their satisfaction has been reflected in the College’s retention rate among students that exceeds the state and national average. Students who transfer to universities consistently outperform those who started there. Our graduates gain competitive jobs and high praise from employers. Licensure rates rank at or above state and national averages, and our students score above the national average on the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Performance (CAAP).
Most importantly, at Wallace State you will be served by an awardwinning and student-centered faculty and staff who are masters of their crafts. They are here to assist you in every aspect of the college experience, from webbased registration, to personal advising in the ACTION Center, and Student Support Services in the Learning Success Center. We believe students are the reason we exist and place student learning and success at the forefront of our activities and initiatives.
