Carolyn L. Hartwell, Ph.D., CPA

Dr. Hartwell received her Ph.D. and MBA from the University of Cincinnati and her BA from the College of Mt. St. Joseph. She joined the Raj Soin College of Business faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2001 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006. She currently teaches financial accounting including an advanced topics and research course in the Masters of Accountancy program and intermediate accounting courses at the undergraduate level. Prior to arriving at Wright State University, she taught accounting information systems at the University of Dayton. She particularly enjoys interacting with accounting professionals and looking for opportunities to invite them into the classroom to enhance the learning experience.
Dr. Hartwell’s research interests include financial reporting, accounting standard setting as well as behavioral issues such as work-life balance in public accounting. Her work has been published in various refereed journals including The CPA Journal as well as conference proceedings. Dr. Hartwell is a Certified Public Accountant and her prior public accounting experience includes auditing government contracts in the Washington D.C. area.
