Program Description
Wright State University-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health and Dayton nursing practice partners have collaborated with other major team members in nursing to offer a new comprehensive master's degree in nursing, the clinical nurse leader, who will function as an advanced generalist clinician with a unit-specific focus. The curriculum for the preparation of the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) was developed after three years of interaction between AACN, WSU College of Nursing & Health and nursing practice partners (Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Maria Joseph Living Center). Dayton VA Hospital and Kettering Health Network have joined the collaborative endeavor as well.
The purpose of the program is to prepare individuals to assume clinical leadership
at the unit level, to implement evidence-based practice and quality improvement
strategies, and to create and manage Microsystems of unit-based health care.
The Master of Science in Nursing degree CNL curriculum integrates a knowledge
base in health care environment management/economics, clinical leadership, clinical outcomes/research, and nursing theories.

Admission Requirements for CNL Program
Note: Effective June 2011, admissions to this program are on hold.
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized nursing organization.
Admission to Wright State University’s Graduate School at http://www.wright.edu/gradschool/
Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Completion of a of goals and objectives statement (Submit on Graduate School application.)
Current Ohio RN license
1-2 years of clinical experience as RN preferred
To apply to our program, submit the following to the Graduate School:
Graduate School application (download application from http://www.wright.edu/gradschool/);
$40 fee to the Graduate School
Transcripts from ALL colleges attended (must be sent to the Graduate School)
A copy of your Ohio RN License (out-of-state students must apply for an Ohio license)
Please note: You do not need to submit any recommendation letters to the Graduate School. They only ask you to list the addresses of your references on their application.
Please email a current resume to the CONH Program Director after applying to the Graduate School. (The email address of the Program Director is listed at the top of this page.)
Once you have sent all your application materials to the Graduate School, we will receive a copy of your file from the Graduate School. If you meet all the criteria listed above for the program, we will then approve your acceptance to the Graduate School. You will then receive notification of the decision. If you are accepted, you will then need to make an appointment with your Program Director to determine your plan of study.
