The most diverse faculty and student body of any psychology program in the region, SOPP embraces its mission of serving the underserved and promoting cultural sensitivity.

Faculty showcase nationally known scholars in such areas as ethics and the law, diversity, filicide, family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, neuropsychology, peace psychology, domestic violence, consultation, health psychology, primary care medicine, violence prevention, and brief therapy. Each year faculty members make numerous national and international presentations and publications of their scholarship.

* Allen, Jeffery

Clinical neuropsychology and neuropsychological assessment.  Dementia and geriatric neuropsychology.  Traumatic brain injury and cognitive rehabilitation.

Cauley, Kate

Multi-professional/interdisciplinary collaborative practice, early childhood development: self-concept and pro-social behavior, AIDS, community psychology, electronic health records, health information exchange.

* Dobbins, James E. 

Family issues including, parenting training, contextual and structural approaches to family therapy; social skills training for adolescents.  Professional development, cross cultural & multi-cultural issues.  Consultation and supervision.

* Fraser, J. Scott 

Brief therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention; psychotherapy integration; integrating evidence based therapies; applications of system theory and social constructionism; disaster and trauma interventions; global psychology issues.

* James, Larry

Mental health consultant, administrator, researcher and clinical practitioner; military psychologist and expert on global war on terrorism; development of behavioral services in primary care, obesity and eating disorders.

* Malloy, Kathleen

Domestic violence, both victims and batterers. Psychology of women, homophobia, women and power.

McCarley, Victor

Chemical dependency (illicit drugs) issues.  HIV issues - emphasis on minorities and IV users.

Forensic psychology, mothers who kill their children; politics and reproductive rights of women including, adoption, abortion, custody, substance abuse by pregnant women; program and outcome evaluations, GLBT issues.

Mindfulness and college student mental health.

*Schultz, Michelle

Child and family psychology (therapy and assessment), clinical training, program development, and supervision.  Specific areas are disruptive behavior disorders in children and youth, parenting issues, issues of self-esteem/self-concept, identity development, and professional development issues.

VandeCreek, Leon

Professional issues (professional education, legal liability, professional liability insurance, licensure), ethics, professional development, psychological assessment, service delivery systems.

* Warfield, Janeece

Domestic violence, adolescent violence prevention, developmental disabilities, medical and psychological treatment of infants and preschoolers.

*Whittingham, Martyn

Group psychotherapy, the interface between social psychology and personality,  attachment theory and interpersonal theory as predictors of group stage,  conflict in group, group therapy processes and outcomes,  interpersonal theories,  group therapy in university counseling centers, research in group therapy, Functional Family Therapy, integrative models of psychotherapy.

* Williams, Julie

Disability issues, rehabilitation psychology, health psychology, neuropsychology, neuropsychological assessment, and outcome measurement in rehabilitation.

* Winfrey, La Pearl

Psychology education and training, integrative approaches to psychotherapy, black feminism,   cultural issues/managing multiple identities, qualitative inquiry.
