RECYCLING AND WASTE REDUCTION
Recycling, waste reduction and re-use is an easy way to reduce natural resource consumption and depletion, saving energy, trees, pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and landfill space.
Recycling Fun Facts:
- Recycling one ton of paper saves: 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfills space, 463 gallons of oil and 587 pounds of air pollution.
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for three hours!
- Landfills are the largest contributors to global warming in the United States due to methane release. Reduce and reuse your waste!
How to Recycle in Your Housing Area:
- Recycle: Most paper types, type 1&2 plastic bottles, aluminum cans, steel & tin cans, & glass beverage containers.
- Don't recycle: foil, styrofoam, food waste, type 3-7 plastics, disposable dishes (ie. plates & cups), etc.
- Place flattened cardboard in recycling bins for recycling.
- There are recylcing bins all over campus, contact Gang Green to find out exaclty where those locations are.
Tips to Reduce & Re-Use Your Waste:
- Repair rather than replace items
- Avoid disposable single use items. Instead buy durable long lasting items.
- Buy in bulk
- Avoid items with excessive packaging
- Use scratch paper
- Donate unwanted items to charity
- Use a re-usable mug and shopping bag
- Buy recycled!
