C.J. McLin, Jr., Student Leadership Development Scholarship

Established in 1989 and named in honor of the late state representative C.J. McLin, Jr., this program provides financial assistance to academically talented students from underrepresented ethnic groups (see C.J. McLin Scholarship requirements).

Continuing the legacy of C.J. McLin, Jr., students awarded this scholarship are required to perform community service and participate in activities that will develop and enrich leadership abilities.

Requirements:

The C.J. McLin, Jr., Scholarship provides students who are members of an underrepresented ethnic group access to higher education and the opportunity to participate in activities that will develop and enrich leadership abilities. This is a four year renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,750 per year.

Students must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

  • Be a member of an underrepresented ethnic group(African American, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino, or American Indian/Alaskan native)
  • Be a graduate of an accredited Ohio high school and reside in the Wright State University metropolitan service area, which includes Clark, Greene, Montgomery and Warren Counties
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of a 2.7 or above in a college preparatory curriculum
  • Have a Wright State University admission application on file
  • Demonstrate leadership ability in school, church, and/or community activities and
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from a high school counselor, teacher, church, fraternity, sorority, or local nonprofit organization along with the scholarship application. (Note: Applications and letters of recommendation must be received by February 15, 2012 for first consideration.)
