How many contact hours do I receive for teaching FIQWS?
Topic-section instructors receive 3 contact hours. (The previous policy of awarding full-time faculty 4 contact hours is being phased out. See here. Composition-section instructors receive 4 contact hours, to reflect the additional time they devote to providing students with detailed feedback on their writing, both through written comments and conferences.

Can a FIQWS be repeated?
A FIQWS topic can be repeated as many times as you like. Several sections of the same FIQWS can also be run at the same time, taught by different faculty, or by the same faculty member.

Is the topic instructor the “leader” of the collaboration?
The collaboration between the topic instructor and the composition instructor in FIQWS is an equal one, regardless of the rank of either faculty member.

Which instructor receives the grading sheet for a FIQWS?
The writing instructor receives the grading sheet. However the grade is assigned by both instructors working in equal collaboration.
For Faculty: What is a FIQWS?
FIQWS is a 6 credit course taken by first semester Freshmen. It combines a 3 credit writing course with an exciting topic taught at a very introductory level. Full-time faculty teach the topic section, and they collaborate with writing instructors, who teach the composition half.
